Camping Las Patrasses is located in Vergt-de-Biron, in the Périgord Pourpre area of the southern Dordogne, about 45 minutes from Sarlat-la-Canéda and Bergerac airport. This peaceful base makes it easy to explore medieval bastides, famous markets, castles, caves and rivers without changing accommodation.

Markets and bastides near the campsite

The campsite lies among some of the most attractive bastides of the Périgord and neighbouring Lot-et-Garonne. Monpazier, founded in 1284 and listed among France’s most beautiful villages, is the closest major bastide. Villeréal, Monflanquin and the medieval village of Issigeac are also easy half-day trips.

Do not miss Issigeac’s Sunday market: it is one of the best-known and most visited markets in the Périgord, filling the lanes around the medieval village centre. Villeréal’s traditional market takes place under and around its historic hall every Saturday morning throughout the year, including winter.

  • Monpazier: Thursday morning from 7 am, Place des Cornières.
  • Villeréal: Saturday morning, all year, including the winter season.
  • Issigeac: Sunday morning, one of the Périgord’s most famous markets.
  • Monflanquin: Thursday.
  • Lalinde: Thursday morning.
  • Villeneuve-sur-Lot: Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
  • Pujols: Sunday morning from April to September.

Schedules can occasionally change around public holidays; check the Pays de Bergerac tourist office or Cœur de Bastides before travelling.

Castles, Sarlat and the Périgord Noir

Château de Biron, about 4 km from the campsite, is the closest major monument. The spectacular Château de Bonaguil provides another family outing towards Lot-et-Garonne. For a full day, drive towards Sarlat-la-Canéda, La Roque-Gageac, Domme, Beynac and the decorated caves of Lascaux IV.

Family activities in the Dordogne

Canoeing on the Dordogne or Vézère, walking and cycling routes, the Aquarium du Périgord Noir and the covered attractions at Univerland provide options for sunshine and rainy days. In July and August, the campsite may operate free partner buses for canoeing from Les Eyzies and activities at Univerland Journiac; dates must be confirmed with the team.

Back at Las Patrasses, the 200 m² heated water park, two basins and three waterslide descents make it easy to keep car-free days in the holiday schedule.

How long should you stay?

  • 2–3 days: Monpazier or Biron, the water park and one family activity.
  • 5–7 days: add Sarlat or Domme, a market, canoeing and at least two relaxed days at the campsite.
  • 10 days or more: include Lascaux IV, Bergerac vineyards and another bastide while alternating outings with pool time.
Do we need a car?

A car is recommended for most tourist sites. High-season partner buses are available only on certain dates.

Which village should we visit first?

Monpazier is the closest bastide for a short visit; Issigeac is the priority on Sunday for its famous market.
